About the Summit

On October 4th, 2014, She’s the First of American University will host the 2nd annual Day of the Girl Summit in Washington, DC. We will be welcoming experts in the fields of science and mathematics, education, political science, and more to AU’s campus in order to discuss topics that are relevant to women and girls worldwide. In 2013, we hosted professors, non-profit leaders, and students for conversations about the issues and solutions being experienced by women in the U.S. and abroad. The Summit’s Organizations Fair connected college students with internships and volunteer opportunities. Networking opportunities throughout the day connected organizations with motivated young people ready to contribute to human rights causes. The Summit hashtag, #DayoftheGirlDC, became a trending topic in the Washington, DC area.

Who We Are

We are She’s the First of American University, a campus chapter of a nonprofit organization that empowers college students to be activists and advocates for girls’ education in the developing world. We host awareness events and fundraisers in order to create scholarships for girls who will be the first in their families to graduate. To date, we have raised over $6900 and sponsored 8 girls in Uganda and Tanzania. Find out more about us by checking out our Facebook or Twitter pages, or visit She’s the First’s website.
